Billy is an Australian professional theatre performer and coach based in Brisbane. With a career spanning over a decade in the performing arts, Billy has performed in almost every significant theatrical venue in the country and is also in demand internationally. From MainStage productions to concerts and studio recordings, Billy does it all.

Billy's passion for education saw him complete tertiary education qualifications in theatre  and performing arts, graduating with distinction and awards for academic excellence.

Bio

Billy Bourchier is an acclaimed Australian tenor celebrated for his compelling performances in musical theatre and opera. Born in Canberra in 1994, Billy’s early passion for theatre was evident through his active participation in local productions, earning him recognition and awards within the Australian Capital Territory’s theatre community.  

 

Billy’s formative years were marked by his education at Garran Primary School and Marist College, where he honed his musical talents, particularly in piano and vocal performance. His dedication led him to the Queensland Conservatorium, where he graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre. That same year, he won the Queensland Performing Arts Competition, highlighting his emerging prominence in the performing arts scene.  

 

In 2020, Billy showcased his creative range by developing and performing his own cabaret, The Corner of Brisbane & Broadway, highlighting local Brisbane talent. His dedication to the arts persisted through the pandemic, leading to his casting as the standby Jamie in La Boite’s 2022 production of The Last 5 Years.  

 

In 2023, Billy joined Opera Australia’s national tour of Miss Saigon, covering the roles of Chris and Shultz. His collaboration with Opera Australia continued in 2024, starring as Tony in West Side Story on Sydney Harbour and joining the ensemble of Sunset Boulevard.  

 

Beyond the stage, Billy is a devoted husband and father, balancing his professional pursuits with family life. His journey from local Canberra productions to leading roles on Australia’s premier stages underscores his dedication, talent, and enduring impact on the performing arts landscape.  

His professional debut was alongside the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in QPAC’s Spirit of Christmas concert. In 2015, Billy captivated audiences as Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance at QPAC, a performance that led Star Central Magazine to name him among the top 10 most promising actors. His versatility was further showcased in Opera Queensland’s production of Candide and as a soloist in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Centenary of the Anzacs concert.  

 

Billy’s career continued to ascend with his role as the first Marius cover in the Australian production of Les Misérables, later joining the international tour in the same capacity. From 2017, he toured Australia and New Zealand with The Book of Mormon, covering the role of Elder McKinley and performing in over 750 shows.
